What's the difference between a Plasma and an LCD display?

I'm considering a new television and I'm trying to determine what's the best way to go on a flat panel television.

Plasma is a charged gas. LCD is liqued.

Plasma has deeper blacks and usually a faster responce time. It is also cheaper as of now. LCD is brighter colors and crisper images becuase it handles a higher resolution. Currently a 37" LCD is about the same price as a 42" plasma.

People say that plasma has a burn in problem (an image left on teh screen after you tunr it off) but this can be easily remidied and prevented (check teh link below). I suggest a 42 or 50 inch plasma.

You can find the best answer on bestbuy.com. They have a technical section that explains in detail each of the current technologies. The tab path is "electronics, televisions, understanding tv technologies." I am also in the market and after reading their answers have decided direct-view HDTV is the best choice. It has excellent performance at a low cost. The others at this time have too many negative variables, plus there are new technologies coming. Watch for prices to drop on plasmas and LCDs in a year or two.
