How to Compare LCD Flat Panel TV with Plasma TV

The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) flat panel TV as well as plasma TV have a lot in frequent except for the technology they use to produce the picture images. Both plasma and LCD have a slim profile. In plasma TVs, neon and xenon gases are used for creating a great digital image. Such technology allows them to have a larger screen size. If you plan on buying either of the two, conduct a thorough comparison.

The Ultimate Flat-Panel LCD Buyer’s Guide.....

This two-part article'll tell you everything you need to know about purchaseing a flat-panel LCD (liquid-crystal display), including several essential things sellers do not want you to know. You will learn why an LCD's the most uncommon technology purchase you will ever make. You will also learn how to evaluate LCDs, what to consider when deciding where to make your purchase, how to stay away buying unnecessary extras, and how to test your early purchase for defects.

If you don't already own one, chances are a flat panel LCD monitor is high on your wish list. These bright beauties, once the exclusive domain of notebooks, are rapidly taking over the desktop. LCDs have the following advantages over conventional CRT (cathode-ray tube) monitors: They require less space, are much lighter (a 20-inch CRT [19-inch viewable area] weighs in at a hernia-inducing 50 pounds, whereas a 19-inch LCD monitor weighs a svelte 13 pounds), consume about 70% less energy and throw off less heat than CRTs, and produce an undistorted, bright flat display.

Until recently, LCDs were much more expensive than CRTs, making it difficult to cost-justify replacing a CRT with the same size LCD. However, improvements in the LCD manufacturing process have resulted in higher yields, which has narrowed the price difference between these two technologies. This is particularly true for the smaller 15- and 17-inch LCD panels.

I need to connect three televisions to one computer to display what is on the computer's monitor?

I've got three 42" flat panel LCD televisions which need to display presentations from a computer. How can I connect all three televisions to one computer (either physically or wireless) so that I can accomplish this? Is there any hardware that I need? If so, what specifically would I need?

so i assume you want the same thing on all three? well the lucky thing is the LCDs should all have VGA ports so you just need a splitter http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817404026

What's the difference between a Plasma and an LCD display?

I'm considering a new television and I'm trying to determine what's the best way to go on a flat panel television.

Plasma is a charged gas. LCD is liqued.

Plasma has deeper blacks and usually a faster responce time. It is also cheaper as of now. LCD is brighter colors and crisper images becuase it handles a higher resolution. Currently a 37" LCD is about the same price as a 42" plasma.

People say that plasma has a burn in problem (an image left on teh screen after you tunr it off) but this can be easily remidied and prevented (check teh link below). I suggest a 42 or 50 inch plasma.

You can find the best answer on bestbuy.com. They have a technical section that explains in detail each of the current technologies. The tab path is "electronics, televisions, understanding tv technologies." I am also in the market and after reading their answers have decided direct-view HDTV is the best choice. It has excellent performance at a low cost. The others at this time have too many negative variables, plus there are new technologies coming. Watch for prices to drop on plasmas and LCDs in a year or two.

Is there a way to convert DVI-I to VGA?

I have a flat-panel LCD display for my computer with a VGA input. There is a DVI-I port on my PC, but I don't have a DVI cable, or a DVI port on the monitor. I found an adapter at The Source by Circuit City, but it is not compatible. Is there an adapter available to convert a DVI-I signal to VGA, or is it not possible?

Yes, a DVI-I can output analog and digital computer signals. VGA is analog, so it will work. You can go to any computer store and buy a DVI to VGA adapter. Then, you will be able to use a standard VGA cable with it. The adapter should cost about $5.

If you can't find one anywhere, you can order one from Newegg.com, whcih is the most popular online computer store in the U.S.

Cyberguys has one.

"Connect a DVI cable to an analog VGA monitor with this DE15 (HD15) male plug to a female DVI-I (Dual Link) socket adapter. Can be used with any DVI-I or DVI-A cable."

Is it good for a gift for my husband. If not any suggestions? TY!

Yes.

Keep in mind however because the monitor and resolution is so big, he'll need a good computer in order to continuing playing his games. But I would be very happy if my girlfriend got me a 25.5" monitor....

You're better off with a Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP. If you go any professional gaming convention you will see nothing but Dells monitors. The same is true in professional office environments. Samsung is a good choice, but the Dell offers a better quality product for slightly more than you're asking.

wow yes 25.5 inch! when we get our 22" i thought that was big but 25.5" damn he'll be real lucky if you buy him that!!!

The samsung is better. When looking at LCD monitors, the higher contrast ratio and the faster response time are both important factors. Samsung also has a good reputation for video products.

the samsung ... but honestly i would get the cheaper one itl be fine ...

the below monitor is the better of the two monitors...due to the response time, and the contrast ratio...go with the Samsung...

How to judge a LCD? by response time? etc?

I own a DELL UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Wide

* Display Size: 20.1 inches

* Display: Flat panel display

* Display Technology: LCD

* Display Resolution Maximum: 1680 x 1050

* Image Brightness: 300 cd/m2

* Image Contrast Ratio: 600:1

* Hardware Platform: PC

* Response Time: 12 Milliseconds

* video_input_digital_standard: Digital Visual Interface (DVI)

* Audio Output Type: None

* Depth: 9 inches

* Width: 18.6 inches

* Height: 18 inches

* Weight: 17.6 pounds

i bought it in the march 2005 for $500(can't complain). First how to i judge a lcd monitor? My first glance of course the size of the lcd, then response time. Although my LCD 's Response Time: 12 Milliseconds, but it still display quality that way better than most demonstrate i seen in most staples/office max/ bestbuy/ etc.

Check out tom's hardware. They do really in depth lcd reviews, and will larn you a bit about what to look for. Response time can be heavily skewed by the maker depending on how the actually rate it, some are more "honest" than others. The dell's are pretty nice, but seem pricey to me.

I need help setting my Samsung - 32" 720p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV for my xbox 360.?

But yet it still looks like crap, the out line of the guys are kinda pixelly, my orginal tv look better then this. Is it somthing I have to do on the TV ? Like Sharpener max out or somthing? Or do I have to buy a elite with the HDMI port? Help me please. I'm about so close to returning this tv and sticking to the regular. 900 dollars of ugly graphics.

HD LCD monitor has 1680X1050....is this equal to 1080p? 1050p?

21 in. HD LCD flat-panel display, Gateway® FPD2185W provides 1680X1050 resolution...is this good like 1080p?

am i getting a high def picture through my DVI connection?

why do i not see 1080 in my display settings resolutions list? do i need an HD graphics card to get max potential from this monitor?

i currently have a radeon x850

No.

HDTV resolutions are 16:9 aspect ratios, most LCD monitors are 16:10 aspect ratios.

1080p is 1920 by 1080. So you are 240 pixels too narrow and 30 pixels too short.

To display unscaled 1080p on a computer monitor you need to get one with 1920 by 1200 resolution, and then you get 60 pixel high black bars above and below the image.

Can an old Compaq Presario desktop PC handle a 19" LCD flat panel monitor? What drives the fonts to be clear?

The internet display is great. The fonts on Email and menus are terribly fuzzy and barely recognizable. Is it the adapter, the graphics card or do I just need a new PC. I'm using Windows 98 OS. Compaq Presario 433 which handled a 17" crt with no problems.

this depends on your video card

normally yes, all modern video cards can handle that, but it comes down to what resolution and DPI (dots per inch) that you want to run at.

also, windows has an option somewhere to display fonts on lcds more clearly. i cant remember what/where it is right now though. and i dont think it even exists for windows 98, s good luck with that. i think it's time for you to upgrade

LCD's are meant to run at only 1 or 2 resolutions. Make sure you have the correct resolution set in the graphic settings as this could cause the fuzziness(right click on desktop and select properties then settings.

How much will this computer go for?

I'm going to build my own so I need get rid of this, please tell me for about how much it will sell for:

Gateway GT4016 Media Center PC

AMD 64 Athlon

1GB DDR Ram

200GB Hardrive

Nvidia 6100

USB Keyboard and Mouse

17'' Flat panel LCD Display

Windows Vista ULTIMATE

Premium Speaker Set

.

I'm going to build my own, so how much will this sell for.

Not a very good system, at best 100 bucks. I could build a computer that makes that look like a joke for 500 bucks. So you would be lucky to get a 100 for a used computer. Has no one ever learned used computers are pretty much worthless. We aren't talking about a car here.

Sadly not that much. I would say tops around 250 and most of that is the monitor.

To increase the selling price, I would throw another 1 gig of ram in there. for the 30 bucks you spend you can probably jack up the price at least 60 bucks.

4 billion

jk 200

about 450
